VISION

Believing in the power of small projects

We are firmly convinced of the need for local initiatives and projects with strong community commitment and empowerment. We believe that local initiatives drive change at the root of Nicaragua´s society, that they can be replicated as they are integrated in the culture and community. Currently, our association supports a girl´s home in Granada (Nicaragua), where girls and young women from precarious family backgrounds are given the opportunity to grow in a safe and nurturing environment. As a relief social upliftment association, we focus on small and local social projects with great impact. We are legally based, registered and founded in Vienna, Austria. With your support, our plans for the future involve expansion to other projects that are focused on women and children in Nicaragua.

A Bit About Our History

Turning Desire Into Action

In 2015, the initiators of the association, travelled to Nicaragua and volunteered

at ''Casa Hogar Madre Albertina", a girl’s home in Granada. During their time in Granada, they corroborated the outstanding job and tremendous impact the nuns had by positively changing the lives of the girls in the Hogar de Niñas Madre Albertina.

The girl´s home offered both spiritual and psychological support and the children had a home nurtured with warmth and personal care. They kept updated on the needs and accomplishments of the girl´s home. From this, the idea arose to form a social upliftment association and to find friends and sponsors for the girl's home in Granada, as well as other small projects benefiting women and children in Nicaragua that needed financial support.

Alegría was officially founded and registered as a social upliftment association in January 2018 in Vienna, Austria. Shortly after, a small group of Nicaraguans, joined the development team to help with the operations of Alegría. The board works as volunteers, there are minimal running costs and no employees to ensure that all the funds reach those in need. We have members that support the association on a regular basis financially or with their work. Long-term our desire is to expand our efforts to more projects that are as impactful and beneficial to those most in need in Nicaragua.

In July 2021 after an extensive audition, we received the certification to be tax deductible organisation in Austria.
